Exceptions to Student Visa
Here are some of the exceptions where you won’t require a student visa. These exceptions include:
- The course you have applied for is less than 6 months. In this case, you shall require a visitor visa.
- You have been a member of foreign armed before.
- You have a family member serving as a foreign representative of Canada.
Student Visa Eligibility
To be eligible for a student visa, a candidate needs to:
- Have an acceptance letter from a Canadian school, university or college.
- Show bank statement and other proofs to demonstrate the availability of funds to pay for:
- Tuition fee
- Expenses during the length of the stay
- Expenses incurred during returning back to his country
- Provide a police/criminal records certificate from their country of origin
- Be in generally good health, and submit to a medical examination if requested
- Show willingness to leave Canada once the study visa expires.

Working On Student Visa
Under citizenship and immigration Canada’s work program for students, students are allowed to work for a limited number of hours in a week while studying. A student can work:
- On-campus without a work permit
- Off-campus with a valid work permit
- In internship programs with a valid work permit
Upon graduation, a student can apply for a work permit under the Post-Graduate Work Permit Program. Under this program, you will get a work permit of about three years.
